I had a 20 m2 patch of lawn to dig up ready for a new flower bed. Having taken up the turf, I was left with compacted hard soil. The tiller made short work of this, taking just over 2 hours to produce finely tilled soil ready for seeds. Be careful it does kick a lot, especially over buried roots and safety protection for feet and eyes is recommended - don't do as in some YouTube videos wear sandals with bare legs!

Ideal for small vegetable plots, flower beds etc. I wonder why I did not buy one before.

Arrived very promptly, took about 20 minutes to assemble (including finding my screwdriver) plugged it in the wall, pressed the safety button and dead man's handle (needs two hands unless yours are very large) and WHOAH!! - it shoots off like a bucking bronco. But once you regain control its brilliant, ready to take on the world. For the money it's incredible; in fact the low price might put some people off but they'd be making A BIG BIG MISTAKE. It performs almost as well as my 4hp petrol machine but is about an eighth of the weight and reaches the parts that others cannot reach - which is why I bought it - producing a fine tilth in the process. I'm given to understand that you can pay more for a posh spade then this costs but I know what I'd rather have.

Light weight scythe, very easy to handle.
Attaching blade required a bit of effort, but was fine.
Blade does not arrive sharp, but has been easy to sharpen (I've been using a kitchen knife sharpening steel, but a stone would do as well), as with any scythe you need to sharpen frequently as you go, so make sure you have something to sharpen it with.
It's been brilliant at cutting long grass and weeds! Very pleased :)

I'd been intending to get a scythe to cut the rough grass in my garden but had not seen anything suitable until I saw this one advertised. When it arrived I was not disappointed. It's an excellent blend of traditional style with modern materials. Easy to assemble, although I did have to file down the spur on blade heel a bit to get it to fit the slot on the shaft, but no real problem. As to comments regarding sharpness, it seems obvious to me that to send a fully sharpened item through the post would be asking for trouble. What if it broke through the packaging in transit and someone was injured? Carriers are not that careful in handling items are they! Anyway, if you're going to use a scythe you should have a sharpening stone also as you will need to use it regularly. In use it is nicely balanced with a good weight behind each cutting stroke, just what you need for long grass and dense weeds. All in all and excellent piece of gardening equipment!!!

I bought this trimmer as part of the combo kit CEL G-CP02 Powerhedge Trimmer/ Powerline Trimmer/ Powerhandle Lithium LD Combo Pack. It is superb and is doing a great job this gardening year. By far the most versatile, lightweight, and easiest to use strimmer that I have owned yet.

This strimmer is incredibly light, yet solid. I was a little worried initially that the construction was flimsy, but after several months' use I am happy that it is sturdy. Adjustment to rotate the head is easy, and head angle adjustment makes this a very versatile tool both for lawn edging work (the wheels are very handy here) and trimming along a horizontal plane. Every time the strimmer stops, it readjusts the cutting cord length, feeding in more line when needed, and this works flawlessly.

The battery is Lithium-Ion, and as such is very versatile. There is no memory issue, so you can stick it on to recharge whether only discharged a little, or a lot. Once charged, it will also hold its charge for a lot longer than NiMh or NiCd batteries. The charging unit is very clear -LEDs tell you exactly where you are with regard to charging status.

This is the lightest and easiest-to-use strimmer that I have ever used.

UPDATE JULY 1st 2012

I've been using this strimmer for over three months now, average every 6 days, and the spool has only now run out. The self-lengthening feature of the strimmer works almost perfectly. I only had to lengthen the cutting end manually once. That's pretty good for over 3 hours of total cutting time, a lot of which involves encounters with concrete, tree trunks and paving slabs.

Still happy with this product's performance and robustness.

i bought this as a replacement for my old black and decker strimmer that finally broke after a few years. this one is not heavy, it is easy to use the line feed system works well too. all the reviews of people saying the line isn't good, i don't know what they are trying to strim around but i used mine around fence posts and chicken wire fence and sure the line broke but not that easily. you can also buy a stronger line for it at a later stage. its good value for money.

I got this strimmer after my last Black and Decker strimmer gave up the ghost, I have only used it a couple of times but so far it has done a great job of my small garden, it only took me 5 minutes to assemble it, and it comes with a full cassette of cutting line, the line seems really strong so I have hardly needed to use the bump feed system, on the down side though it is heaver and more noisy than my old strimmer and the power cable is very short, but at this price those faults can easily be forgiven and overlooked

I wasn't too sure about getting a new strimmer but I am glad I did. This is very efficient at cutting the grass as it revs at a really good speed (11500) and I had no problems with the strimmer line - I did my front and back lawn edges without breaking once ! The mains lead is fastened in and although too short to use without an extension lead it is still ok. The extra handle is well positioned to help with the balance of the strimmer. I would say that the guard is to my mind a little small but this doesn't really detract that much from what is overall a good product.

Arrived from Amazon within 3 days( free postage) Strimmer was easy to assemble and was up and running quickly It has cleared all the long grass around my fences and paths with ease. I have just used it for 2 hours non stop and have not experienced any problems with the line breaking,The line is BUMP feed and not AUTO feed so it needs the occasinal tap on the ground, however this works very well. The spool is easy to change, Read the instructions to find out how to change this before you actually need to. The spool being held in by a two prong clip that just needs to be depressed. As with all the Black and Decker items I own it is sturdy (guaranteed fir 2 years). Having two handles is a boon, the second handle I have utilised as cord storage. The cord is rather short however and could have done with being longer, but using an extention lead is no big deal. Read the instructions before use and it should be trouble free.

Bought this model to replace my older 4-stroke Bushwacker which was still going strong after 7 years and with no problems.....until I stripped the spark-plug thread in the aluminium motor head when cleaning it! On previous experience, I never had any problems with the machine, it always started within a few pulls of the cord - after juggling around with the choke. The 30cc model had incredible power and care needs to be exercised when strimming around delicate items; it's very easy to chop down your favourite tree or bush if you're not careful, but practice makes perfect. I have the full range of ancilliary tools (except rotovator) and they all work brilliantly; so much easier than having individual power tools and the power means that tools like the hedge-trimmer work so much more effectively than their electric equivalent. The tree pruner slices through fairly substantial branches and it's all too easy to get carried away! I can't think that the new model won't be as good but as a power tool system, I don't think you can beat it. Well done Ryobi.

This is a great little machine, i used to have 2 stroke one that the carb kept going on, so i got this in the hope the engine was a bit more stable, andit seems to be. It is also quieter and has lower emmisions. Only thing to be aware of is if using inverted the oil leaks from the engine, making trimming the top of very high hedges a bit tricky. otherwise great.

I bought this as a cheaper substitute for a proper scythe to take down overgrowth in the areas surrounding my allotment. However, I wish I'd bought a proper scythe now, as this little thing doesn't have the weight to go through brambles and dense long grass; whereas a proper scythe is pulled through to cut, this has to be swung, more like a sickle, and that doesn't enable full effect from the curved blade attached to a longer (than a sickle) handle.

Having not touched the back garden for 12 months due to ill health, work and rubbish weather it was very overgrown and it was pretty obvious my old and lightweight strimmer was not up to the job. After quite a fair amount of research it was a choice between a petrol engine model and a heavy duty electric, based on price and the fact I can't be bothered with 2 stroke petrol engines I opted for this model. Assembly is quite straight forward, but operation is strange, why Flymo chose to use an automatic speed sensor I find baffling, if they wanted to have variable speed why not make it manually operated via the lever as is common with many power tools? Apart from that once I got the hang of operating the strimmer, with an occasional squeeze of the lever to overcome the automatic speed sensor it made short work of the jungle in the back garden, effectively demolishing everything in its way, one negative is the weight, after 30 minutes I had serious arm and shoulder ache . The automatic line feed works satisfactorily, it feeds line out every time the strimmer is switched on so if it is repeatedly switched off and on the line use may be excessive. The only complaint is the cable restraint which does not work. Overall once you get the hang of the strange operation, this is very effective if rather heavy strimmer.

Eventually we have taken delivery (e-mail stated saturday delivery arrived following tuesday automatic e-mail system possible problem) but when we waited in on a saturday all day and no delivery we where not happy.Once the machine was unpacked and put together (no problems very good instructions) it became apparent this was not a cheap tinny tiller but a heavy duty will last a while tiller,proof of pudding will come tomorrow on allotment we will give it a good test. Direct Power sent several e-mails to reply to e-mails sent saturday and eventualy sorted it out with courier etc with a possible recompense of some delivery cost (we will see) all in all we seem to have a bargain eventually.
